Maurice de Vlaminck adapted Paul Cézanne’s geometric dissection of forms but preferred a richer application of paint. The color tones are dark and dramatic, and the perspective of the houses is distorted. Vlaminck, who came from a family of musicians and also played the double bass, worked with dynamic rhythms in his painting as well.
