Maurice de Vlaminck left the Neo-Impressionists’ systematic application of paint far behind him. His dynamic brushwork is reminiscent of Claude Monet’s painting Autumn at Jeufosse. Vlaminck emphasizes the rhythm of the individual brushstrokes, which become longer, more restless, and liberate themselves from the motif. Instead of trying to achieve an equivalent of nature like Monet, he was more interested in the expressive value of color.
