The limestone on the shore of the Seine gleams brightly. Alfred Sisley chose a variety of shades for the white material. He used an impasto application of paint to render the fragmented slope. The slight movement of the water is evoked with horizontal brushstrokes in green, blue, and white. The artist painted over sixty works featuring this town, which was close to his home in Moret.
