This winter picture was painted in 1874—the year in which Alfred Sisley attracted attention with his participation in the First Impressionist Exhibition in Paris. The strong shadows cast in the foreground lead the viewer’s gaze to the group of strollers, lending an element of instantaneity to the painting.
