Signed lower left: Claude Monet
Inv.-no. MB-Mon-22
The painting is composed in a classic manner with numerous perspective lines receding to a central vanishing point. However, Claude Monet toned down this formal austerity by self-assuredly softening the strict lines of the compositional elements with energetic brushstrokes. Similarly, the figure in the center of the road is only hinted at.
