Although many Impressionist landscapes include factory chimneys as symbols of the modern era, it is unusual for them to be featured as prominently as they are here. Gustave Loiseau captured the appearance of fields and trees covered with hoarfrost using short brushstrokes. The impasto imitates their surfaces.
