Armand Guillaumin had a preference for strong color combinations in his landscapes. Most of the surface of this picture is taken up by the expanse of snow that is depicted in fine gradations of blue and pink. The emphasis of the surfaces and contours indicates a stylistic distancing from Impressionism.
