Raoul Dufy chose a subject that was closely associated with Impressionism: Monet’s luminous fields of wheat. Playing with the famous model, he drew the contours of a village over glowing fields of color and symbolically emphasized individual spikes of wheat. He transposed Monet’s lightness into a decorative and ironic cheerfulness.
